Rough translation of lines 794 – 805

There many times the men of hero Beowulf swung an old survivor, wished to defend life of the lord-king , the famous chief, where they so could. They knew not when they came to struggle, those tough-minded warriors, and when, on each side, they thought to hew that sin-scather, tried to reach his very soul. Not any made of the choicest iron on this earth, those war-blades, not one would touch him, but so he had forsworn all victory-weapons, each and every edge.
